“I am a frayed and nibbled survivor in a fallen world, and I am getting along. I am aging and eaten and have done my share of eating too. I am not washed and beautiful, in control of a shining world in which everything fits, but instead am wondering awed about on a splintered wreck I’ve come to care for, whose gnawed trees breathe a delicate air, whose bloodied and scarred creatures are my dearest companions, and whose beauty bats and shines not in its imperfections but overwhelmingly in spite of them…”

Sjöberg was born and raised in the heartland of America before transplanting to the West Coast to pursue a BFA in Photography. In his time since University he’s traveled extensively for personal and work related photography projects. His portfolio spans the globe, from the war-torn parts of Northern Uganda, to the brothels of Southeast Asia, the Favella’s of Rio de Janeiro, and North Korean shelters in China, as well as nearly every corner of the United States.

A spirit of adventure and simplicity has formed Adam into a bit of a vagabond-photographer, anxiously seeking out the unusual and unexpected faces and corners of the planet.  Characterized by a feeling of movement and sensativity to light and shadow, his portfolio is filled with both intimate and emotive moments as well as sweeping panoramatic scapes.  Whether on a milking farm on the Cornish coast of England, or the banks of the Tumen River separating China from North Korea, Sjöberg’s depiction of the human experience seems hopeful and forlorn at the same time, yet always peppered with light in the midst of shadow.

Sjöberg’s photo credits range from live music (Blitzen Trapper, Dr. Dog, Beirut, Johnny Flynn, Delta Spirit, Ben Kweller, Laura Marling) to red-carpet events and product photography (Edun, Casio, US Open of Surfing, Mattia Biagi, Mighty Leaf Tea, Somaly Mam) to portraiture, journalism and documentary photography.

Sjöberg’s work has been exhibited on both coasts.  You can follow his adventures through his image-driven website, Loose Luggage, and, when he’s not traipsing the globe, you’ll find him exploring the streets of Manhattan where he currently lives.
